Homemade Carpet Cleaner Recipes

It is hard to keep a clean carpet, especially if you own pets or have small children around. And let’s face it, accidents do happen to all of us, regardless of age. Who hasn’t spilled coffee or dropped some sort of liquid on the carpet? But staining the carpet is not a tragedy, if you know these cleaning tricks.

You can make your own carpet cleaner out of baking soda, water, vinegar, fabric softener, and a few drops of liquid detergent. To make it smell great you can add lavender essential oil.

You can also use beer to get stains out. Just pour some of it on, then sprinkle baking soda, let everything dry up and then vacuum.

If that doesn’t do the trick just get some castile soap flakes, mix them with warm water and use the resulted liquid to scrub the stain out.

You can also just mix dry laundry detergent with warm water. That does the trick most of the time.

If the stain is really stubborn, you can use this recipe: half of a cup of powder detergent, 1 teaspoon of ammonia and warm water. Gently rub the solution using a sponge. Allow the carpet to dry and then vacuum.

You can also mix window cleaner with water to make carpet cleaner. The trick is that the ammonia contained by the window cleaner removes stains without leaving so much residue as powder detergent mixed with water would, because of all the foam.

For a dry carpet cleaning solution mix baking powder with corn flour and add green tea leaves if possible. If not, you can add some potpourri to make the solution smell good. Mix everything up and sprinkle on the carpet. Use a broom or a brush to push it deep into the carpet. It’s best to leave overnight. Vacuum in the morning.
