It is inevitable for the shower or bathtub drain to clog up. The grease, dead skin cells and hair get caught up in there and tangle, making it almost impossible, sometimes, for the water to get through.
What to do?
Well, the drain needs to be unclogged.
How to unclog a shower/bathtub drain?
The first step is to remove the drain cap. Then, you will need baking soda and vinegar. Also get a metal wire and at one end twist it a little so it resembles a hook. Get it in the drain until you touch the clogged goo. Try to hook it and pull it out. You may need to work on that for a while but it’s important to get that out.
After getting the goo out, pour in baking soda and a cup of vinegar. It will immediately start a chemical reaction and make a white foam. Let the mixture do its magic for a few minutes and then turn on the faucet and let the hot water run for a minute so that all the loose dirt can go down the drain.
Another way to unclog a drain (metal not plastic) is to use only baking soda and boiled water. Just pour in some baking soda and right after, a pot of boiled water. That does the trick 60% of the time.
However, if the drain is clogged up with hair, dirt from around the house or if you are used to pour down that drain the water after you mopped the house, you absolutely need to get yourself a metal wire and fish out the tangled goo.
How to prevent a drain from clogging?
Make sure you never pour the mopping water in there. Always use the toilet to get rid of that.
After you shower, make sure you thoroughly clean the drain and rinse it. Always use a punctured cap when showering. Never leave the drain completely uncovered.
